Passing Score

You must pass each section with a 70% or higher to go on to the next step. If you fail, even 1 section, you must retest all sections again at the next available testing session.

STEP 4

Interviews

Applicants that have passed all 4 sections with a 70% or higher, will be scheduled for an interview. At the interview, the applicant will be required to provide a DMV report showing a satisfactory driving record. Applicants with more than two (2) points within the past three (3) years or one (1) or more serious traffic convictions (as determined by the committee) within the past three (3) years will not be accepted.

STEP 5

Waiting List

Once you have tested and interviewed you will be placed on the Applicant Waiting List in order of score and notified as to your placement. The movement of that list is based on the needs of the contractors. As the contractor’s workforce needs increase, apprenticeship openings become available. Applicants can stay on the waiting list for up to 2 years.

APPRENTICESHIP

The apprenticeship is a 5-year program. During those 5 years, you will be supervised and trained on the job as well as have classroom instruction two (2) nights per week for your selected trade. You will begin as a 1st-period apprentice and advance in the level of training and pay every 6 months until you reach Journey level status.

How much does it cost? There is no fee for the program!

GRADUATION

Upon completion, you will attain Journeyperson status and receive state and government licensing in your trade from the State of California Department of Industrial Relations and the United States Department of Labor, as well as the United Association of Plumbers, Pipefitters, Welders, HVACR Service Technicians, and Sprinkler Fitters Union. In addition, our international union has partnered with Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor, MI to award you 45 college credits upon completion of the program.

CONTINUED EDUCATION

Journeypersons in our program also receive continued education and training as needed at no cost.

DO YOU HAVE EXPERIENCE?

Do you have experience or education/training in the Plumbing, Pipefitting, Pipe Welding, or HVACR Service Technician industries?
